Mondays With Mia

The weather has been really nice lately, so we have gotten lots of outdoors time.

We've been having picnics outside at where we have been calling home for the moment.

We've been taking Mia down the slide...and she doesn't seem to get what all the hype is about...yet.

We also took a trip to the Wild West Playground to put our feet in the water....

...and we have been getting some walks in...here and there...

...and finally we've been spending time with your aunt and cousin...

...who also loves the water at the playgrounds.

Mondays with Mia

It has been a while since I could post one of these, but we have been so busy! Anyway, this past week we've had so much fun together.


Over the last week, we have been working very hard at tummy time...well kind of...Mia still isn't a huge fan. She would much rather be looking at what is going on around her.

We also got all dressed up to go look at houses...She didn't last long in this outfit...she got so messy...but it is really cute....thank you Emily and Dustin.

Mia is so in love with her daddy. His voice alone will perk her right up. I love this Totoro bib by the way...Thank you Kahori.

Also, the other night Mia was just cranky and tired, so Ten decided to give her a bath...result...sleeping baby...She was out for the rest of the night! Even when I put her diaper on...this was too funny not to share.

Anyway, I hope that all of you will have as much fun this coming week as we have been having!

Mondays with Mia

Where we live, we can get free health checkups for babies. This is in addition to the standard well baby checkups at the hospital (which are also free...love national health care by the way). So, we decided to try one of these health checks today....why not, right?


We took the bus to Nakameguro where our local government office is, and this was also Mia's first bus ride. She has mainly been cruising around Tokyo in taxis until now.

What did she think of the ride? Well she slept the entire time...so it wasn't the magnificent learning experience we had hoped for...just kidding...we had no expectations....just realized some family members may have thought I was being serious.


We arrived to a completely empty waiting room....

There were actually maybe a total of 10 babies here by the end of the day....I was surprised more families didn't want to take advantage of this.


Anyway, first we had to get Mia undressed and in a new diaper....have I mentioned how much she hates being woken up...especially to get naked.

Do you see the numbers on the scale back there? Mia is now weighing in at around 9 pounds! We were both pretty shocked since we were guessing around 8-8.5 pounds. Also, her height is now around the 50th percentile! She was just in the 3rd percentile a few short weeks ago...talk about a major growth spurt!!!


Anyway, she passed the exam with flying colors and was much happier to be fully clothed again. Can't wait to see how she does at her next checkup in 2 weeks!!

Mondays with Mia

Last week we actually made it out twice with baby Mia. The first big event was for her one month check up. This was supposed to be a more detailed check up for premature babies, but in all honesty it wasn't. They just basically told us to keep her inside for 3 more months. No specific reason....just general advice. Well that sounds like a bit long in my opinion, especially since she didn't have any lung problems when she was born....so we have decided not to be on complete quarantine any more! :)

Anywho, Mia did a great job at the doctor's office. She only woke up to be weighed and all of that. I really should have taken pictures at the doctor's office. Next time!

The second big day out was to get her passport photos taken! See the happy family below:

If you would have taken a picture two hours later, you would have seen me and Ten staring daggers at each other...and Mia...probably sleeping as usual. Let's just say that there are probably much easier things in this world than waking a sleeping one month old and then making her stay awake to get her pictures taken....lots of screaming and crying. However, eventually we got it done... Thank God we won't have to ever do that again!!

Also, Mia is getting a lot bigger now...which means that she can fit into even more of her clothes. I thought that this outfit was really cute...Ten on the other hand said it was too... provocative...bahaha. I feel for her when she gets older.

Well anyway that is about it for the past week. This coming week we have a few more outings planned. I'm getting so stir crazy staying in the apartment that they are much needed.

However, staying inside with this cutie really isn't all that bad ;)

Mondays with Mia

So last week I dropped some burrito on Mia while eating....don't worry it was on her clothes....mostly.

We also didn't bathe her the other night (or two) because we were tired and she was clean...umm...enough.

I must admit that if I hear that a diaper change is in order and Ten will be home in the next 20 minutes...then I conveniently get busy with something else....jokes on him.

I've also been sneaking some caffeine in here and there...I know....it's not ideal.

We have put on her shirt inside out...countless times...

...and maybe worst yet....if she gets a little too wild and loud...then I threaten her....with a trip to her grandma's house....

It makes her panic and she settles down immediately.... ;)

But while things may not be running on Martha Stewart level here at our household....everyone is happy, healthy, fed, and mostly clean... so I think we are doing okay.
